Network access

WLAN

With your RZ user ID you can use the campus WLAN eduroam at various hotspots. You can also log into the WLAN at other participating universities of the eduroam project.

A prerequisite for use is on the one hand the electronic recognition of the operating regulations. For this purpose, you log in with your user data on the service portal page of the computer center. By using the service, you also acknowledge the University Computer Center's rules of use. We ask you to read both documents carefully.

The existing eduroam hotspots can be marked on the campus map.

Detailed instructions on how to set up the connection with different devices and operating systems can be found on the pages of the data center documentation.

VPN

If you want to access certain resources of the TU network from outside the TU Clausthal, you need a VPN connection to the TU Clausthal network. The Computer Center offers a VPN gateway which allows an encrypted and authenticated connection to be established, thus enabling secure access to TUC internal resources. You connect to our VPN gateway, authenticate yourself with your user ID and password and from now on your computer will be part of the TU network, even if there is no direct physical connection.

A VPN connection only makes sense if you are not in the network area (WLAN/institute network) of Clausthal University of Technology and need access to IT resources on the intranet (e.g. network shares/campus software, license server, catalogues/directories of the UB, etc.). It is also important to note that once the VPN connection has been established, all data traffic from your computer is routed through the TU Clausthal's VPN infrastructure in "full tunnel" mode. This means that your remaining communication with the Internet is also sent over the TU Clausthal network.
